Each week, students will receive a Fluency Packet to work on at home. The first page of the packet will have a chart to keep track of how you read each night (Child read to parent, parent read to child, or child and parent read together). Please initial this chart each night. Here are a few clarifying directions for the Fluency Packets:
1. Students should practice reading the passage each night, as many times as you would like.
2. For the first read (the "cold" read) please have your child read the passage aloud for one minute, while you hold a copy of the passage and read along. Circle any words that your child says incorrectly. Chart the fluency in the first column on the Tracking page (you will record the total number of words said correctly in one minute).
3. Students should practice reading the passage every night. They can answer the comprehension questions at any time.
4. At the end of the week (Thursday) have your child read the passage aloud to you (again for one minute), while you circle incorrect words. Chart their progress...and see how much they have improved!
5. The fluency packet should be sent back to school on Fridays, where I will keep a master chart of progress.
